Tens of millions of people died during World War II, including 6 million Jewish people who were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.

Dutch Jews were among the hardest hit. Three quarters of the Netherlands' pre-war Jewish population perished in Auschwitz, Sobibor and other camps.

Eighty years later, some of the community's shattered synagogues have been restored.
