The wildfire that burned in the southern Aude department through 16000 hectares in 48 hours before being contained on 7 August, stands out for its exceptional scale and speed of propagation.

The fire is the worst in at least 50 years on the French Mediterranean coast, according to the French Government Forest Fire Database.
