Travel by train between the capitals of Spain and Portugal should take no more than 5 hours by the end of the decade – and just 3 hours by 2034 – according to plans unveiled by the European Commission.

The EU-backed project is key to connecting Iberia with France and Germany and shifting passengers from planes to trains.
