Half of Europeans with HIV are diagnosed late.

A report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) shows that around 48% of people with HIV in the EU received a late diagnosis in 2024, delaying access to anti-retroviral treatment and prompting hidden transmission.

The bloc should urgently rethink its testing strategies, warned the ECDC.
