French artificial intelligence start-up AMI said on Tuesday it had raised $1 billion (€890 billion) to develop AI systems designed to understand the physical world “in the way animals and humans do”, rather than relying on language-based models such as ChatGPT.
The company expects to produce “fairly universal intelligent systems” within five years.
