European football’s governing body, UEFA, announced that Somali referee Omar Artan — who was controversially barred from the US for the World Cup — will officiate a major European match.

Artan will referee the August 2026 UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa FC.

The game serves as a season opener to the European club competitions.
