Icelanders have been unnerved by US President Trump’s ambition to annex Greenland, a neighbouring Arctic island.
It did not help that, speaking to the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, Mr Trump muddled Greenland with “Iceland” four times; or that his nominee as ambassador to Reykjavik suggested tastelessly that Iceland should become America’s “52nd state”, remarks for which he later apologised.
